Rental taxation in Sweden

This article provides detailed information on the tax rules for income generated through peer-to-peer car rental via platforms like GoMore in Sweden.

Is the rental income I receive from GoMore taxable?

Yes, income earned from renting your car as an individual through GoMore is considered taxable capital income, which must be reported in your tax declaration. The Swedish Tax Administration provides guidance on the taxation of sharing economy services. Instructions and an illustrative example of peer-to-peer car sharing can be found on their website here.

We at GoMore report all car owners income to the Swedish Tax Agency, however, the information is not preprinted in the annual declaration. Therefore, as a car owner, you must make sure to include it in your declaration.

Where can I find a summary of the rental income I have received through GoMore?

You can view an overview of your earnings as well as mileage from your rentals by following this path on our platform:

  • Via the Website: Select your profile picture from the top right corner and click on "Earnings" -> "Earnings".

If you need more information on your income or have any questions about it, please contact GoMore Support.

Can I deduct tax costs related to renting a private car?

Yes, according to the Swedish Tax Administration, you can deduct SEK 13 per Swedish mile that the car has driven during all your rentals over the year. The total mileage is based on the mileage history entered in each rental contract. This information can be found under "Payments" and then "Transactions" in your profile, by downloading the CSV file named "Earnings per car".

Your rental earnings, minus the mileage deduction, should be added in your tax declaration under section 7.2. More information about this can be found on the Swedish Tax Agency's website, along with examples on how to calculate the income.

You cannot make deductions for any expenses that are usually connected to the car, such as for parking space.

How does it work if I rent my business’ car through GoMore?

If you rent your car through GoMore as an actual income-generating activity, you can create a commercial owner profile on our service. You can constantly view your accrued rental earnings on your profile, which you can then conveniently report to the tax authorities and calculate the relevant deductions from the expenses incurred.

DAC7

GoMore complies with EU tax legislation (DAC7) on how earnings from digital platforms should be reported. This means that we work together, and share information directly, with local tax authorities for the purpose of income reporting.

As income reporting for tax purposes is based on specific format guidelines developed by the tax authorities, it is not always straightforward to match it perfectly to how we present rental income in the GoMore app. Our invoices and receipts inside the app are more detailed, and contain categories of which not all are relevant to the tax authorities.

You can read more about DAC7 here.
