Parking correctly can save you from unwanted fines and ensure a smooth rental experience. Here are some essential tips to help you park a rental car.
Before you park the car at the end of your rental:
Check the owner's instructions: Familiarise yourself with where the car can be parked, its parking licence, and any other important information about delivery and parking found under the owner’s instructions.
Location information: These instructions are accessible under the rental agreement on your profile once you have an approved rental agreement.
No instructions provided: If the owner does not provide specific instructions, the car should generally be returned to a non-time-restricted parking space within the same parking zone and no more than 500 metres from where you initially picked it up. If in doubt, contact the owner.
Before leaving the car:
Check local signs: Parking rules for a zone/street are typically indicated at the entrance to that area. Always read these rules before parking.
Avoid restricted areas: Never leave the car in spaces with no-parking signs, even if restrictions apply only at certain times or on certain days.
Distance from intersections: Never park less than 10 metres from any intersection, including T-junctions. This helps avoid blocking sightlines and maintains road safety.
Private or reserved spaces: Unless the rental car has a designated private/reserved space, always park in a public parking space.
If the car has a private/reserved space, this will typically be noted in the owner’s delivery instructions.
Setting the parking disc: Always set the parking disc to the time when you are leaving the car.
Automatic parking disc: If the car is equipped with an automatic parking disc, ensure it is functioning correctly and is set appropriately before you leave.
